Planning For Burial – Matawan: Collected Works 2010-2014

Double cassette retrospective of smokey slow burning out-takes and drafts from Planning For Burial with Mattawan: Collected Works 2010-2014 on The Flenser. Twenty eight tracks spanning almost two hours. There is a lot to digest here and as you’d expect from a collection of this magnitude things run a wide gamut of genres, styles and structures. Drifting electro-ambience, looping astral fuzz, raw hammering blackness/blackgaze, gradually built Earth-esque desert guitar shimmer. I first encountered the work of Thom Wasluck via the Dynasty at Ghost Town 11 tapes series on the seminal but now defunct Bathetic Records and enjoyed it in the… Continue reading

  • Tossapol – Places

    Tossapol – Places

20 minutes of hissing, tumbling off kilter field recording from Tossapol with Places on Un Poco Fría. It’s a curious genre. In what other physical medium could these tracks exist than cassette really? What words could explain what these sounds consist of, mean, or why some choose to listen? Collected sounds of what are described as “small objects and stones on guitar” but also a game basketball, traffic, subtle laughter, light acoustics. And how does listening to this differ from hearing as one would in their daily movement thru the world. I suppose it’s the attention that differs. As a… Continue reading

  • Lutto Lento – Death Beam

    Lutto Lento – Death Beam

Austere, post industrial from Lutto Lento with 2011 cassette release Death Beam polish label Sangoplasmo. Produced as a sound installation for Longing for Tesla commissioned by Czarny Neseser gallery and Gallery Design BWA Wroclaw. Two tracks of cosmic techno inspired by the electromagnetic weapon invented by Nikola Tesla in the 1930s. Stark, pulsating soundscapes awash in swathes of flanged synthesizer. Building and sustaining tension and unease. Mesmerizing, disorienting, undeniably immersive. SANGO009 Death Beam by LUTTO LENTO Limited edition of 23 hand-numbered copies. 4 panel double sided jcard, individually numbered inserts noting the exhibition. Stickered labels on white shells. Add to… Continue reading

  • Tidal / Rambutan – Sounds of the Future / Trapdoor to Infinity

Tidal / Rambutan – Sounds of the Future / Trapdoor to Infinity

2012 vinyl split release on Aguirre Records pairing Tidal and Rambutan with Sounds of the Future / Trapdoor to Infinity. Two highly complimentary long form drones from tape scene regulars of the era. Each track stretching past the twenty-minute mark, both layer and evolve textures from minimal to what feels expansive and almost cosmic. Spiritual, forward-looking drift, dreamlike, the atmosphere is dense and grounded in tonal warmth. Together, the split works less as a contrast and more as a continuum—two perspectives on the same meditative state. A transportive release where listening gives way to non listening and contemplation of the human… Continue reading

  • Sangam & Kid Smpl – Found Wings

Sangam & Kid Smpl – Found Wings

2022 cassette release, Found Wings by Sangam & Kid Smpl on Display is mesmerizing drift between ambient haze and fractured rhythm, both intimate and distant. Six tracks, each 10+ minutes, of blown-out textures layer on fragmented bits of melody. There’s a feeling of memory at play, bits of decontextualized conversation recalling something meaningful but indistinct—carried by the song’s delicate balance of warmth and dissonance. Sombre, harsh, beautiful.  Found Wings by Sangam & Kid Smpl Edition of 50 professionally duplicated with UV printing on transparent blue shells, double sided pro printed jcard. Comes in a black ziplock bag with Display sticker.… Continue reading
