Planning For Burial – Matawan: Collected Works 2010-2014

Double cassette retrospective of smokey slow burning out-takes and drafts from Planning For Burial with Mattawan: Collected Works 2010-2014 on The Flenser. Twenty eight tracks spanning almost two hours. There is a lot to digest here and as you’d expect from a collection of this magnitude things run a wide gamut of genres, styles and structures. Drifting electro-ambience, looping astral fuzz, raw hammering blackness/blackgaze, gradually built Earth-esque desert guitar shimmer. I first encountered the work of Thom Wasluck via the Dynasty at Ghost Town 11 tapes series on the seminal but now defunct Bathetic Records and enjoyed it in the context of 2010’s burgeoning tape scene haze. Presented in this much broader context it’s clear that piece represents a single aspect of the artists scope and vision. Massive, sprawling, fantastic.

Available in digital form via Bandcamp in separate downloads, Volume 1 and Volume 2, or directly from The Flenser in this wonderful two cassette set with cardboard slipcase. Each tape comes shrink wrapped (a sure sign any label means serious business) with pro printed shells and double sided 4 panel jcard.
